Design Philosophy
Guided by the principles of “Jiangnan Heritage, Waterside Corridors, Autumn Living, and Quiet Refinement,” the design is rooted in the spatial texture of traditional Jiangnan water towns and framed through a contemporary natural aesthetic. Through courtyard gardens, bridges connecting pathways, and reflective waterside corridors, the project reinterprets the poetic lifestyle of Jiangnan, allowing residents to experience the beauty of seasonal change and the calm elegance of urban living.
Core Landscape Design
1. Secret Courtyard · The Courtyard
An immersive garden retreat capturing the poetic atmosphere of autumn.
Layered Planting Composition
Feature Chinese tallow trees form the primary canopy, complemented by soft, flowing groundcovers to create rich vertical layering. Seasonal foliage transitions paint the courtyard with an evolving autumn palette, shaping a natural artistic landscape.
Dynamic Light and Shadow
Filtered daylight enters through delicate screens, casting shifting patterns of light throughout the day and bringing vitality and romance to the space.
Enclosed Resting Spaces
Planting is used to define intimate garden rooms, offering residents a peaceful setting for relaxation and quiet contemplation.
2. Waterside Homecoming · The Bridge
Inspired by the spirit of Jiangnan water towns, the arrival sequence becomes a poetic journey home.
Bridges and Flowing Water
Clear water is introduced into the site, while elegant bridges connect the homecoming paths, recreating the classic Jiangnan experience of “crossing bridges and returning home beside the water.”
Woodland and Cascading Water
Layered planting and cascading water features line the pathways, where flowing water and birdsong create a serene and immersive atmosphere.
All-Age Living Experience
The landscape integrates interactive water play, flower viewing, and resting areas, enriching the journey home with both natural charm and everyday warmth.
3. Waterside Corridor · The Gallery
A contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Jiangnan corridor, creating a dialogue between architecture, water, and landscape.
Lightweight Corridor Structure
The traditional heaviness of corridor architecture is softened through a lighter, more refined form that blends naturally with wood and water elements.
Still and Moving Waterscapes
Within the elongated central courtyard, corridors anchor both ends of the site: one accompanied by dynamic water features, the other paired with an open lawn that metaphorically reflects a still water surface, balancing movement and tranquility.
Community Social Space
Flexible gathering and leisure spaces beneath the corridors encourage community interaction while expressing the poetic character of Jiangnan in autumn.
