Design Philosophy
Greentown Hangzhou · Yueying Xingyu Garden is guided by the conceptual essence of The Moon and Sixpence. Set within the refined cultural context of Jiangnan, Hangzhou, the design embraces stillness layered with natural sensibility, and everyday life infused with poetic aspiration. The community landscape balances regional identity, inclusivity across all age groups, and an artistic spatial experience—allowing residents to discover their own “inner moon” within the rhythm of daily life.
Core Landscape Design
(1) Tranquil Living Landscape Zone
Theme: “Moonlight and starlight in dialogue, serenity beneath the trees.”The arrival sequence transitions seamlessly into a restorative woodland experience, where homecoming becomes a return to inner calm.
The entrance lobby extends into a shaded grove, where lush planting and cascading water features create a cooling microclimate, easing summer heat and forming a comfortable transitional threshold.
A raised mirror pool, integrated with a moon-and-star courtyard concept, uses water, light, and semi-enclosed walls to shape a Zen-inspired spatial atmosphere—where reflection and stillness converge.
Drawing from the poetic sensibility of Jiangnan classical gardens, shaded corridors and curated planting create immersive spaces for sitting, viewing, and tea appreciation, returning life to a state of quiet continuity and ease.
(2) All-Age Activity Landscape Zone
Designed around growth, play, and intergenerational vitality, this zone fosters open-ended exploration and everyday joy.
Fairytale Theater: An open interactive plaza for families and community gatherings, supporting play, performance, and social interaction.
Glacier Adventure Playground: A sculptural play environment with suspended structures, varied topography, and playful mural art—blending exploration and imagination into a story-like landscape.
Dynamic Water Play Stream: A meandering creek-inspired water system that encourages safe, sensory water interaction for children.
Spring Knowledge Learning Garden: A nature education space integrating botanical gardens and orchards, enriched with butterfly ecology, tactile plant recognition, and sensory fruit experiences—cultivating early environmental awareness through play and discovery.
Dedicated fitness and cycling areas support youth sports and active lifestyles, reinforcing a sense of dynamic energy throughout the community.
(3) Detail-Oriented Aesthetic Landscape Zone
This zone emphasizes refined craftsmanship and the synthesis of beauty and function.
Inspired by Yoshinobu Ashihara’s The Aesthetics of the Street, the design employs textured paving, fragrant planting, and tactile spatial layering to create a memorable “sense of place.”
Through structural optimization, elevation transitions, and fluid curvilinear forms, every detail is carefully composed—balancing visual elegance with safety and usability.
A strong focus on spatial coherence and atmospheric continuity ensures that each design gesture reflects care for everyday life, seamlessly connecting art with lived experience.
