Design Concept
Guided by the core vision of “Sea as Painting, Eastern Poetics, Resort Living,” the design moves away from Western rationalist color systems and instead interprets Sanya’s marine landscape through four traditional Chinese color palettes: Tian Shui Bi (Sky-Water Azure), Coral Red, Water Dragon Chant, and Smoky Twilight.
By translating oceanic forms, colors, and atmospheres into spatial experiences, the landscape integrates nature, culture, and daily life. Color becomes the medium for atmosphere-making, while natural forms shape spatial narrative—allowing residents to experience a relaxed coastal resort lifestyle without leaving the community, achieving a seamless coexistence of nature, culture, and living.
Key Landscape Design
(1) Tian Shui Bi · Serene Waterscape
Using Tian Shui Bi as the dominant spatial tone, this zone defines the community’s central pool landscape.
It features a forest pool, a flowing water gallery, and shallow interactive water areas, framed by swaying coconut groves that filter dappled light and shadow. Coastal curves are introduced into the waterform, merging sky clarity and ocean depth into a pure, tranquil aquatic retreat.
(2) Coral Red · Children’s Fantasy Realm
The children’s play area is articulated through Coral Red, inspired by the color and morphology of underwater coral ecosystems.
A sculptural octopus-like terrain is formed, integrated with climbing structures and subterranean tunnels, creating a world that can be climbed, traversed, and explored. Towering Delonix regia (flame trees) provide shade, combining vibrant color expression with ecological exploration to stimulate imagination and curiosity.
(3) Water Dragon Chant · Meadow Wilderness
Water Dragon Chant defines the tonal base of the lawn landscape, shaping a naturalistic meadow of gentle wilderness.
Fresh aquatic green tones derived from marine algae are embedded into rolling terrain. Light and wind move across the grass like soft ocean swells, echoing the rhythm of coastal tides. The space offers a relaxed, open green field for strolling, resting, and reconnecting with nature.
(4) Smoky Twilight · Poetic Arrival Journey
Smoky Twilight defines the atmosphere of the arrival sequence, shaping a poetic, coastal-inspired entrance experience.
The return path traces a meandering shoreline, lined with coastal vegetation such as coconut palms and Terminalia catappa (tropical almond trees). Layered greenery encloses the route, evoking misty horizons and fading sunset light—transforming the homecoming journey into a serene, resort-like coastal passage.
Design Summary
The project is deeply rooted in Sanya’s coastal identity, reinterpreting marine aesthetics through traditional Chinese color systems and translating them into a tangible, experiential landscape environment.
Through the integration of color, topography, vegetation, and water systems, the design creates a holistic resort-style living environment. The poetic atmosphere of the sea is embedded into everyday life, unifying natural poetics, resort experience, and human comfort—ultimately crafting a tranquil and refined coastal residential experience.
