Verdant Landscapes of Songhu Lake

Rooted in the ecological landscape of Songshan Lake, the project takes “Verdant Landscapes of Songhu Lake” as its central theme. Framed by two landscape spines — “One River for Living” and “One Creek for Dreamlike Wandering” — the design integrates the aesthetics of traditional Chinese blue-green landscape painting with the spatial character of Lingnan gardens. The result is a contemporary residential landscape that balances vibrancy and tranquility, where everyday living coexists harmoniously with nature.

Verdant Landscapes of Songhu Lake

Design Concept
Inspired by the natural scenery of Songshan Lake, the project draws from the artistic spirit of classical blue-green shanshui painting and the spatial language of Lingnan gardens. Guided by the principles of ecological integration, painterly color expression, Eastern elegance, and poetic living, the design reinterprets traditional Chinese landscape aesthetics, layered courtyards, and blue-green palettes into a contemporary landscape language. The community unfolds as an immersive garden environment defined by open serenity, winding pathways, shaded groves, and spaces for both exploration and retreat — offering residents a refined sense of nature within the city.

Core Landscape Design
I. Blue-Green Shanshui · A Thousand Shades of Green
Drawing from traditional blue-green landscape paintings, the project creates a layered evergreen environment that changes subtly through the seasons.
Landscape Dialogue
The inner lake within the community visually connects with the larger Songshan Lake beyond the site, restoring the natural landscape texture of the region and establishing an integrated ecological framework between inside and outside.
Painterly Color Expression
Traditional Chinese blue-green tones — including jade green, moss green, bamboo green, and mineral indigo — are carefully translated into planting palettes and material selections. Shifting light and seasonal weather create nuanced visual layers reminiscent of classical shanshui paintings.
Ecological Foundation
Benefiting from Dongguan’s maritime climate, the landscape is composed as an evergreen woodland environment with rolling layers of greenery, expressing both Eastern color aesthetics and the poetic vitality of nature.

II. Gentle Ripples · Flowing Waters
A calming arrival sequence is designed to create a slow and restorative residential experience.
Arrival Journey
Residents move through water, woodland, corridors, and courtyards along a fluid sequence of spaces, allowing the return-home experience to gradually unfold and ease the mind.
Resting Spaces
Sunken seating areas are embedded within tall groves and dynamic waterscapes to create a tranquil and restorative atmosphere. Rustic sloped bridges recall the quiet simplicity of rural landscapes.
Spatial Layers
Plazas, pavilions, and lawns descend naturally with the terrain, echoing the rhythm of flowing water. Expanded lawns and widened sheltered spaces provide openness and comfort while accommodating strolling, gathering, play, and relaxation for all ages.

III. Whispering Creek · Ink-Wash Elegance
Drawing from the restrained beauty of Lingnan gardens, the project shapes a serene and understated landscape axis for the residential courtyards.
Courtyard Composition
Inspired by the enclosed spatial order of Lingnan gardens, the design creates layered axial courtyards with winding paths and densely planted groves, turning the journey home into a poetic spatial experience.
Atmosphere & Mood
Metal mesh screens introduce a soft sense of enclosure and visual ambiguity, enhancing the refined Eastern character of the space. Streams, shaded woodland, and birdsong together create a contemplative environment that reconnects people with nature.
Spatial Experience
The elongated courtyard axis contrasts with the openness of the high-rise landscape corridor, generating a quiet retreat amid urban density while expressing the restrained elegance of Eastern aesthetics.
